Knight Rider

Knight Rider  was an American television series from the 1980s. The main character in the series, Michael Knight (played by the actor David Hasselhoff), is an advocate for the poor and homeless, whose real name is Michael Long, who fights injustice by driving a high-tech prototype car. Called KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), the car incorporates a central computer, which really is a highly intelligent, self-conscious AI (artificial intelligence) with the ability to speak and interact as if it were a normal person. The car model that was used in the series to embody KITT was a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am v8.

Produced by Glen A. Larson, The series was a milestone for teens and pre-teens of the time and launched Hasselhoff to fame. Michael and KITT were assigned to missions by Devon Miles (Edward Mulhare) who appeared in each chapter sending Michael and KITT on a mission. Bonnie Barstow (Patricia McPherson) and April Curtis (Rebecca Holden) were the KITT mechanics in the series.

It was the first time that a woman had taken over a car in a series. Bonnie was in the first, third, and fourth seasons while the second season was absent because Patricia McPherson had differences with the executives. She was replaced by Rebecca Holden playing April, which fans of the series did not like, and the executives decided to bring Bonnie back. Reginald Cornellius III, RC for short, It was the last regular addition to the series. Played by Peter Parros, he was in charge of helping Devon and Bonnie in whatever they needed and sometimes he helped Michael with a special case. Peter Parros was a regular from the first episode of the fourth season.

Synopsis

Michael Arthur Long (played by David Hasselhoff), was an honest police lieutenant who was leading an investigation into the powerful COMTRON computer group for industrial espionage. At the time of duty, he was working undercover alongside his partner Muntzy (Herb Jefferson, Jr.), protecting two Consolidated Chemical Corporation executives: Tanya Walker (Phyllis Davis) and Charles Acton (Ed Gilbert). During the investigation, Long infiltrates Gerard Wilson (Vince Edwards), a COMTRON executive who in turn monitors Acton's movements, in order to steal the plans of a computer system that he had planned, in order to create a new empire behind COMTRON. For it, Wilson sends his spy Lonnie (Shawn Southwick) to infiltrate Acton's room, to take photographs of the plans of his invention. Muntzy, who pretended to be an electrician, gives the alert to Long, but the plan is spoiled when Lonnie betrays Muntzy, who despite pursuing her ends up being shot by Wilson's security chief, Vernon Gray (Lance LeGault).

Long launches into pursuit of Muntzy's assassins, being caught by Tania, who accompanies him on his search. During the course of the persecution, Long reveals to Tania the reasons for his espionage, however, when he finally manages to catch up with Wilson and his people, Tania betrays Michael by shooting him in the face and leaving him lying next to his Pontiac Trans-Am black. Fortunately for Michael, he is rescued by a mysterious organization, that in addition to adulterating his disfigured face (a previously placed platinum implant saved him from being shot in the brain), he reconfigured his car making it a deadly crime-fighting weapon. In this way, Michael Long was rescued by the FLAG foundation led by Wilton Knight, who changed his identity to that of Michael Knight, while reforming his Pontiac to make it the powerful KITT (acronym for Knight Industries Two Thousand, in Spanish Knight Industries 2000). In this way, and after taking revenge on those who betrayed and tried to kill him, Michael assumes his new identity as a member of the Foundation for Law and Government, fighting crime aboard his car and with the company of his friends Devon Miles and Bonnie Barstow.

Main characters

Michael Knight: Played by David Hasselhoff. Previously named Michael Arthur Long, he was an honest cop who was the victim of an ambush that ended with a disfigured face. Once rescued by the Wilton Knight Foundation for Law and Government, his identity was adulterated, as was his car, a Pontiac Trans-Am that was converted into KITT, the Fantastic Car. After collecting his revenge, he decides to continue within the Foundation as a main member, being the driver of KITT and the main threat to organized crime.

KITT: Personified on a Pontiac Trans-Am model, it is a car made by Wilton Knight on the basis of Michael Long's personal car. It is a car equipped with artificial intelligence, which allows it to interact with Michael, while having the possibility of being self-sufficient. Its body is covered with a molecular material that makes it indestructible to the attack of projectiles, however on three occasions it managed to be neutralized, to the point of being almost reduced to nothing. On many occasions, KITT usually makes decisions over their driver, whenever he is in a very dangerous situation. From the fourth season, it dispenses with its molecular armor to make way for an aerodynamic system that allows it to reach unimaginable speeds.

It is worth noting that the engine hum that is heard is due to the injection equipment, it is equipped with automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

Devon Miles: Played by Edward Mulhare. He is the butler and chief secretary to Wilton Knight. He was the one who carried out the supervision of the construction of KITT and after Wilton's death, he assumes the role of teacher and adviser to Michael in his fight against crime.
Bonnie Barstow: Played by Patricia McPherson. She is in charge of the KITT mechanics. She is a young mechanic who has her base of operations in the Knight Semitrailer, a trailer truck designed by Wilton Knight equipped with the highest technologies and cutting-edge tools, which Bonnie carries out as a true walking workshop. An interest that goes beyond friendship is usually generated between her and Michael, although they do not want to demonstrate it by pretending not to mix love with their respective works. Due to a McPherson contractual issue with series executives, Bonnie's character was removed in the second season, being reinstated in the third and fourth seasons at the request of fans.

Enemies

KARR (acronym for Knight Automated Roving Robot, or Automated Rolling Robot Knight in the Spanish version) is the prototype version of KITT, originally designed by Wilton Knight and built by his company Knight Industries. Upon completion of the vehicle, the KARR CPU was installed and activated. However, a programming error made the computer unstable and potentially dangerous, due to its primary self-preservation policy. The project was suspended and the car was put into storage until a solution could be found. It appeared in two episodes, in the first and in the third season. In season one, two subjects in an ethyl state intentionally activate it in a cellar, where it remained stored, Then KARR makes them get excited with the idea of getting gold from an exhibition and in the end he confronts KITT, he shoots out of a cliff, falls on the beach and apparently explodes. Then in the third season in the episode KITT vs KARR a couple walks along the beach, finds him buried in sand, reactivates him and begins to convince one of the boys to make things easier, they even attack the Unity trailer Mobile from the Government Law Foundation, robbing Bonnie of a laser that was to be used against her. Then the FLAG special team creates reflectors for the laser for the final confrontation, where in the last scene they both use the Turbo Propeller and they both hit, KARR is smashed to pieces, KITT is unhurt, and only his Unit remains from KARR Control shivering. He shoots off a cliff, falls on the beach and apparently explodes.

Garth knight

Garth Knight (played by David Hasselhoff) is the evil son of Wilton Knight and Elizabeth Knight. Garth is ruthless, evil and cruel, especially with Michael Knight, because he thinks that his father created him in his image and likeness to replace him. Garth Knight created a truck with KITT's molecular armor, Goliath. In two episodes of the second season Michael and KITT had to face off against Goliath, led by their creator, Garth Knight. Garth was Wilton's eldest son, but not Michael Knight, who was adopted to work at FLAG.
