Magnum P.I.

Magnum, PI was an American television series dealing with the adventures of Thomas Sullivan Magnum (Tom Selleck), a private investigator living in Hawaii.

The series was a mix of comedy, action, and drama. It was broadcast on the American network CBS from 1980 to 1988. It was also broadcast in many other countries.

The highlights about the character were his flowery shirts, his shorts, his Detroit Tigers cap, and his mustache-like mustache, which was part of Selleck's personality for a good number of years.

Thomas Magnum worked for a mysterious sponsor named Robin Masters (without being the Charlie of the Angels), who owned a mansion and the distinctive red Ferrari 308 GTS, becoming one more character in the series.

Masters was not only the sponsor of Magnum, but he was a very successful writer who was once helped by Magnum and who, in gratitude, gave him extensive liberties regarding his Hawaii guest house and the exclusive red Ferrari he had there.

In the mansion also lived a butler of English origin, named Jonathan Quayle Higgins III John Hillerman in charge of the care and maintenance of the mansion. He owned two Doberman watchdogs, Zeus and Apollo, with whom he threatened Magnum and his friends in the mansion.

Higgins had absolute power over the goods of Robin Masters who traveled the world and in several chapters of the series, Magnum believed with very good reason that Robin Masters was the literary pseudonym of Higgins and that they were in fact the same person. Suspicion was a very correct element in the story, verifying its veracity in the last chapter.

Magnum lived in the guest house and enjoyed all the comforts of the manor, he was in charge of the manor's security, video cameras, and alarms. Magnum was involved in small cases as an independent investigator; he was once required by the head of the Honolulu Police Criminal Investigations Department, Commissioner Tanaka, to solve murder cases.

Thomas Magnum used to be helped by his two great friends and former companions from the Vietnam War, "Rick" and "TC". Rick worked in a Hawaii club called King Kamehameha and had contacts in the local mafias, and TC had a strikingly painted black Hughes 500 helicopter, which he used as an air taxi to fly over the island with tourists and a legendary Volkswagen T3 van painted in the same colors as the helicopter. Magnum was an eternal womanizer and a fan of all American sports, especially the Detroit Tigers of baseball; He also used to go down the coast to kayak.

The series launched Tom Selleck to stardom. In the chapter on curiosities, it should be noted that when Steven Spielberg and George Lucas created Indiana Jones, they thought of Tom Selleck to bring the character to life on the big screen, for being an investigator. In fact, they even went so far as to propose it to the actor. However, the initial great success of the series and the contract signed with CBS for several years, prevented Tom Selleck from being Indiana Jones.

In Spain the series was initially broadcast by TV3, ETB and TVG. Years later it was broadcast by 2 de TVE. It is considered one of the best series of the 80s.
